Lucie Furlong, RGN RCN

A big welcome to Ms. Lucie Furlong, our new nurse, whom commenced this week at Woodlands. Lucie joins us with over 16 years nursing experience at the National Children’s Hospital in Dublin.

A new gym has now been installed! Many girls are rising early each morning to have a full work out done before morning classes commence! The gymnasium comprises of 8, state of the art fitness machines, including 4 Treadmills and 4 Cross Trainers.

At Woodlands, our girls’ overall health is of paramount importance to us and this can be reflected in our Healthy Eating campaign and daily fitness regime.

The trip to Switzerland was a great success. It was wonderful for the girls to stay at our sister Academy, Le Chatelard and experience daily life there during the trip. A lot of fun was had on the slopes and at Le Chatelard. Photos are available to view on our website.

The student council launched the English Points campaign on Monday, allowing teachers to award points to girls making special effort in English speaking for the final term. This has been a big success.

Our Basketball team have been competing in the Dublin School Girls 2nd Year C league since early January and have consistently won all of their matches. They are now through to the All-Ireland Semi Finals which means they are in the TOP FOUR SCHOOLS IN IRELAND for this age category!

The team have displayed incredible commitment, determination, teamwork and skill. The 2nd year C semi-finals and finals are being played on Friday the 9th of May in the University of Limerick. We are very excited about this and the girls are training very hard. Well done girls, we are very proud of you!

There are now new bunk beds in every student’s room at the Woodlands!

The new mattresses and pillows are of hotel quality (Respa) and each set of beds also has drawers underneath for extra storage. These beds were initially to be put in to Woodlands in July, but we decided to bring them in earlier as a treat for our girls.

Cambridge official exam dates will be announced shortly and the girls are studying hard in preparation for these prestigious exams.

A new initiative was brought in recently, where awards are now given by teachers to girls who they feel are making exceptional effort. This is working very well with our students and is a wonderful motivation at this time of year.
