Greetings to you and your family! As many of you already know we welcomed in our new school nurse, Marie Potter, in mid-September. During the school year at Overbrook Academy your daughter receives a monthly evaluation of her weight and you may notice a change. There are many different causes that may contribute to weight fluctuations. New school, new environment, new people, different foods, stress, as well as age and hormonal changes are all normal contributing factors that may affect her weight.
Here at Overbrook Academy, we continuously strive to improve your daughter’s experience. Every student’s health and nutrition is important. We would like to share with you the changes that are being put together by the Chef, the Nurse and Physical Education Teacher within their departments.
We are planning on working together to continue to provide to our students:
· Nutrition classes, given to the students and complying with the State of Rhode Island Health Department
· Balanced menus for a healthier lifestyle
· Let’s Move Campaign! This is a comprehensive initiative, launched by the First Lady. www.letsmove.gov
· Exercise and Fitness Room is open and available to the students during their free time
We are confident that moving forward this will benefit every student, not only in the short term, but in the long term as well.
We would encourage you to motivate your daughter to take advantage of the means we are providing for a healthier lifestyle.
